Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has produced two graduates with perfect Cumulative Grade Point Averages of 5.00 among 79 students who earned first-class degrees at its fifth convocation ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, disclosed this on Monday during a news conference to announce activities for the convocation scheduled for Friday.
Newspadi gathered that the two outstanding graduates are Osemen Esezobor of the Department of Computer Science and Osayuware Osazuwa of the Department of International Relations.
“Two of our graduating students finished with perfect CGPA of 5.00, a remarkable achievement that reflects their commitment to academic excellence,” Kolawole said.
The vice-chancellor disclosed that 147 graduates earned second-class upper degrees, while 48 obtained second-class lower degrees. Another 10 graduates finished with third-class degrees.
Kolawole also announced that the university’s Governing Council had promoted an academic staff member, Mrs Modupeade Adetunji, to the rank of full professor of Food Microbiology and Mycotoxicology.
He described the promotion as a significant milestone in the institution’s academic development.
The vice-chancellor said the university had introduced compulsory skills acquisition programmes alongside academic studies to improve graduates’ employability and prepare them for the job market.
He added that some students had secured international remote jobs through a partnership focused on digital literacy.
Kolawole further disclosed that the university had restructured its academic departments into four faculties to strengthen its academic administration.
He explained that the institution adjusted its convocation schedule to enable graduates to meet registration deadlines for the National Youth Service Corps orientation course and admission deadlines for foreign universities.
Speaking at the briefing, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Samuel Olatunji, expressed confidence in the university’s ability to contribute to national development.
Olatunji emphasised the importance of integrity, cooperation, faith and community development in shaping responsible graduates.
“We place a high premium on integrity, strong values, cooperation, reverence for God and community development as essential pillars for nurturing responsible graduates,” he said.
Earlier, the university’s Registrar, Mr David Oyejide, said the institution had continued to grow since its establishment on May 20, 2019.
Oyejide, who was represented by the Head of the Corporate Affairs Unit, Mr Michael Bamigbola, thanked stakeholders for supporting the university’s vision.
“Our story is unfolding by the day, and we believe it will keep getting better and greater, bringing glory to God and making a greater impact not only on students but on humanity in general,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the week-long convocation programme will feature a convocation lecture, the conferment of degrees, the presentation of prizes and a thanksgiving service.
