Former Actors Guild of Nigeria President, Emeka Rollas, has apologised to actress Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and other Nollywood colleagues over remarks he made during the actress’s marital crisis in 2025.
Rollas issued the apology in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, saying he had reflected on how he handled the controversy and regretted the timing and platform he chose to express his views.
In November 2025, the former AGN president publicly commented on the reported marital crisis between Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko, saying the actress “needs help” and criticising some senior actors whom he claimed had witnessed incidents involving her.
He also questioned Rita Daniels’ involvement in the AGN leadership race and commented on issues involving Nwoko, who was then the guild’s Board of Patrons chairman.
Regina subsequently responded to Rollas, questioning his decision to publicly state that she needed help and accusing him of disrespecting her family.
Reflecting on the controversy, Rollas admitted that he could have handled the situation differently, particularly while the Daniels family was going through a difficult period.
“Sometimes, with the passage of time, we look back at our actions and realise that being right about an issue does not necessarily mean we handled it the right way,” he said.
Rollas said a recent encounter with Rita Daniels, during which some individuals attempted to reconcile both parties, further prompted him to reconsider his actions.
“A recent coincidental encounter with Mrs Rita Daniels, where some people tried to make peace between us, gave me another opportunity to reflect,” he said.
Following his reflection, the former AGN president apologised to Rita Daniels and her family, Ned Nwoko and his family, Regina Daniels, the AGN Board of Trustees and several Nollywood colleagues.
Those he mentioned in his apology include actors Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility and Nazareth Jesse.
“I am sorry,” Rollas said.
He stressed that he was not making the apology to pressure anyone into accepting it, noting that the decision to forgive him remained with those who felt offended by his actions.
“Whether or not anyone chooses to accept my apology is entirely their decision. I am making it because, after looking back, I am not proud of how I handled that moment,” he said.
Rollas, however, noted that his position on some of the issues he raised during the controversy had not necessarily changed. He said he was nevertheless taking responsibility for his conduct and the timing of his comments.
“I may still hold my convictions about some of the issues I raised then, but I take responsibility for my actions and my timing,” he added.
The former AGN president said he had decided to move forward with “peace, reconciliation, dignity and respect.”
“Leadership is not only about having the courage to speak. It is also about having the humility to acknowledge when we could have spoken differently, waited longer, or chosen a better path,” he said.
