Wike’s son submits US passport in $2.1m land suit

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has adjourned a $2.1m land dispute involving Jordan Wike, son of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, until December after he presented his American passport before the court.

Justice Sylvanus Oriji fixed December 1, 2 and 14 for further hearing in suit No. CV/008/2026, filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited against Jordan.

The passport became central to the proceedings after Jordan told the court during cross-examination that he was outside Nigeria on September 26, 2025, the date the claimants alleged they paid him $2.1m to facilitate a land transaction in Abuja.

When asked which passport he used to travel, Jordan said he travelled with his American international passport and indicated that he could produce it in court if required.

Counsel for the claimants, Hamza Dantani, subsequently asked the court to order Jordan to present the document.

Justice Oriji granted the request and directed him to produce the passport. Jordan complied at the resumed proceedings, after which the court made a photocopy for its records and returned the original to him.

The judge, however, directed Jordan’s lawyer to ensure that the original passport is produced whenever the court requires it during the trial.

The case centres on allegations that Jordan agreed to help the claimants acquire 60 hectares of land in Abuja, comprising 30 hectares each in Katampe and Guzape.

The claimants alleged that they initially met Jordan in London before holding further discussions in Abuja over the proposed transaction.

According to their account, Jordan demanded $2.1m as a facilitation fee, with $2m allegedly intended for his father and $100,000 for himself.

They further alleged that they handed over the money on September 26, 2025, in the presence of Adamu Sani, Aliyu Sarki and Sai Wani, while Onor Sandy allegedly accompanied Jordan.

The claimants said Jordan subsequently failed to facilitate the land acquisition or refund the money and later became unreachable.

Jordan has denied the allegations and maintained that he was not in Nigeria when the claimants said they handed over the money.

Represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ogwu Onoja, Jordan adopted his statement on oath and rejected the claims against him during the proceedings.

During the hearing, Dantani also asked the court to direct Jordan to write his full name and signature five times each on a plain sheet of paper.

The defence did not oppose the application, and Justice Oriji granted the request.

The handwriting exercise forms part of the ongoing proceedings as the parties present evidence and arguments over the disputed transaction.

The court has not made a final determination on the allegations against Jordan.

The case will resume on December 1, 2 and 14 for further proceedings.
