Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of Alhaji Shamsudeen Apelogun as the Amirul Hajj for Ogun State ahead of the 2026 pilgrimage to the Holy Land, in a move aimed at strengthening preparations for the annual religious exercise.
Apelogun, who holds the titles of Asiwaju Adinni of Ogun State and Baba Adinni of Remoland, will lead the stateās delegation of Muslim pilgrims and provide spiritual guidance throughout the Hajj operations.
The governor also named Sheikh Zakariyah Olorungbebe as Chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for the 2026 Hajj exercise. In this role, he will oversee the administrative coordination and operational planning required to ensure a seamless pilgrimage for participants from the state.
The appointments, announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, form part of broader efforts by the Ogun State Government to deliver a well-organised and stress-free Hajj experience.
Abiodun tasked both appointees with upholding high standards of integrity, dedication, and accountability. He stressed that strong leadership and effective collaboration would play a critical role in guaranteeing the safety, comfort, and spiritual fulfilment of pilgrims.
The state government also reiterated its commitment to providing the necessary support systems and structures to ensure that all intending pilgrims from Ogun State complete the journey without complications.
