The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to diversify their income sources, warning that relying on a single income may not cover their daily needs.

Nafiu gave the advice while addressing members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Anambra State, according to a post the scheme shared on its official X handle on Monday.

He encouraged the corps members to use their service year to acquire relevant skills, develop an entrepreneurial mindset and explore legitimate opportunities to improve their finances.

The NYSC DG also urged them to build lasting relationships, identify business opportunities and embrace long-term investments as they work towards financial independence.

“Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments,” he said.

Nafiu further advised the corps members to remain diligent and acquire as many skills as possible while they were still young.

He also encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to their host communities and take pride in the teaching profession by imparting knowledge to residents in their places of primary assignment.

In her camp situation report, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that the scheme had registered 1,623 corps members for the orientation exercise.

She said the corps members had demonstrated discipline, cooperation and commitment by voluntarily serving on various committees and supporting the smooth running of camp activities.

“They have been disciplined, cooperative and supportive, voluntarily serving on various committees and contributing positively to the smooth running of the Orientation Camp,” Ojisua said.

The state coordinator appreciated Nafiu for visiting the camp, describing his presence as a source of encouragement to both corps members and camp officials.
