Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has called for more remakes of classic Mount Zion films after watching Agbara Nla: The Return.
Effiong made the call after meeting veteran Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye, his wife and members of the Bamiloye family.
The actor shared a photograph from the meeting on social media, describing the encounter as an “impartation.”
Reflecting on his university days at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Effiong recalled hearing stories about Mount Zion Faith Ministries and its Christian films.
He said the meeting with the Bamiloyes fulfilled a long-standing dream and left him deeply inspired.
“This was Kairos.
“It was more than a chance encounter, it was an impartation. My young adult years in FUT Minna were filled with all sorts of stories and dreams about Mount Zion Faith Ministries. Now many years later I meet the father and mother of faith based drama and film in Africa and indeed the world. It was the warm embrace from Daddy and mummy that did me in.
“My heart is full,” he said.
Effiong also praised Agbara Nla: The Return, describing the film as a movement and urging audiences to see it.
“AGBARA NLA THE RETURN is a movement!!!! It carries the same Spirit of revival as the original and everyone has to watch it. The performances are riveting, the writing is powerful and the storytelling is even more compelling,” he said.
The actor then made his call for more remakes of the ministry’s classic productions, declaring, “WE WANT MORE REMAKES OF MOUNT ZION CLASSICS!!!!!!”
Agbara Nla: The Return remakes Bamiloye’s 1993 Christian film Agbara Nla, which follows a family caught between traditional spiritual practices and Christian faith.
Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the new film, while Mike Bamiloye reprised his role from the original production.
The film debuted in Nigerian cinemas on October 1, 2026.
According to FilmOne data reported by Nairametrics, Agbara Nla: The Return grossed N170.59m from 28,468 admissions between October 2 and 4.
The figure comprised about N71.4m generated from preview screenings and N99.15m recorded during its first three days of general release.
Its box-office performance has placed the film among Nollywood’s biggest non-December openings and made it the biggest opening for a faith-based film in Nigeria.
