Nollywood stars, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Funke Akindele and Sola Sobowale, gathered at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on Wednesday to celebrate the life and legacy of veteran actor, Olu Jacobs.
The stars joined filmmakers, actors, friends and colleagues of the late thespian at a Night of Tributes held ahead of his funeral on Friday, October 2.
The event, which commenced at 4 p.m., attracted several notable personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Among those present were Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Saka, Hilda Dokubo, Segun Arinze, Rita Dominic, Emeka Ike, Femi Adebayo and Madam Saje.
The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, also attended the ceremony.
The gathering gave members of the entertainment industry an opportunity to honour Jacobs and reflect on his decades-long contribution to theatre, television and film.
Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, died on September 16 at the age of 84.
Fondly called the “Lion of Lufodo,” Jacobs enjoyed a career spanning several decades and established himself as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before appearing in British theatre and television productions. He later became a prominent figure in Nigeria’s film industry.
In recognition of his contribution to the arts, Jacobs received the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2011.
The veteran actor was married to fellow actress Joke Silva, with whom he co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
His funeral service is scheduled to hold at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The family has chosen green as the official dress code for the funeral.
