Galatasaray set sights on Fenerbahçe star Bright Osayi-Samuel

Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel has surfaced as a surprise transfer target for Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray as the club intensifies preparations for the new season, according to reports from Turkish outlet Fanatik.

The potential move has raised eyebrows across Turkish football circles, especially considering Osayi-Samuel’s long stint with Galatasaray’s fierce city rivals Fenerbahçe. During his four-and-a-half-year spell at Fenerbahçe, the versatile defender made 178 appearances, scored seven goals, and registered 15 assists, establishing himself as a reliable figure in the squad.

He also played a key role in the club’s triumph in the 2022/23 Turkish Cup before sealing a move to Birmingham City last summer.

Now, Galatasaray are reportedly exploring defensive reinforcements, particularly at right-back. While Roland Sallai currently holds the starting spot, with Wilfried Singo serving as backup, uncertainty surrounding Singo’s future has pushed the club to consider alternative options.

Osayi-Samuel’s name has continued to feature in transfer discussions within Turkey. The 28-year-old came close to joining Beşiktaş last summer, but negotiations collapsed at the final stage.

Despite the renewed interest, the Nigerian defender remains under contract with Birmingham City until June 2028. He has made 22 appearances this season, recording one assist in 1,242 minutes of action.

Currently, Osayi-Samuel is on international duty with the Nigeria national football team, taking part in friendly matches in Turkey against Iran and Jordan, as he continues to stay active ahead of the new campaign.
